I would have never imagined a day when I would be writing the commemoration piece for my son, but I feel it is important to tell the stories of his legacy and keep his remembrance honoured to the highest.
Aksel was the brightest flame I have ever seen. Even though he never had an easy life this time around, he still smiled every day, laughed and brought the greatest joy to everyone who met him.
In the highest, we honour our beloved Son and mightiest angel, Aksel James Stevens.

Our love, Aksel James, son of Alexandra Smith and Tyler Stevens, arrived May 7th, 2023, during a lightning storm in Ladysmith, British Columbia - a true warrior entrance.Â
Our mighty magician defied all odds and lived a beautiful and miraculous 6.5 months surrounded by endless love, gifts, sacred moments and beauty.Â
He entered Christ’s arms on November 20th, 2023, peacefully at home, surrounded by his parents, paternal grandparents, Jennifer and Scott, and maternal grandparents, Kimberly and Scott.Â
Aksel entered the heavenly realms with love and was welcomed with open arms by those who preceded his death - his uncle Mathew, great-grandmother Gaynor, great-great-grandfather James, great-grandfather Ernie, great-grandfather Neil, great-grandmother Natalie, great-grandfather Bruce, great-grandmother Jane and beloved great-godmother Gracie.Â
During his brief residency on Earth, he touched countless hearts of those who have met him and those who knew of him. His laugh sounded like a choir of angels, and his smile was pure sunshine. He made such an impact on Earth in such a short amount of time.Â
His legacy of love will be upheld by his parents, maternal and paternal grandparents, maternal great-grandparents Gayle and Jack, paternal great-grandparents Linda and Fred, Aunt Caitlin, Uncle John, cousins Alexander and Lauren, Uncle Justin and Aunt Olivia, God-mothers Autumn and Serena.
His life will be celebrated at Osborne Bay Beach on Vancouver Island, open to all impacted by his legacy of love in the near future.Â
